During the late 1970s, Stephen King decided to see if his writing could succeed without the weight of his reputation. To do this, he adopted the alias Richard Bachman and released several books under that pseudonym. The experiment ended in 1985 when reporters uncovered the link between King and Bachman, and the novels were thereafter recognised as King’s own work.
